Natural vs Spiritual: Understanding the Spirit Realm

It is a fact that there are two realms: The natural realm that you can see (temporal), and the spiritual realm which is eternal. Just as there are two realms, there are two forces constantly battling each other: good and evil.  Your enemy, known as Satan, is the god of this world. He was kicked out of Heaven along with one third of the Heavenly host. He is out to destroy all believers. The Bible describes him as “roaring lion” seeking whom he can destroy. John 10:10 KJV Jesus said: “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Satan’s Strategy

Satan has a sophisticated, time-tested way of destroying you and your life. Some of his main moves are:

the word of God

1. To Steal the Word of God From Your Ears and Hearts.

The thief (Satan), who is the enemy of Jesus, must first steal.  “What is he stealing?” you might ask.  He comes to steal the word of God from believers.  The word of God comes by hearing. Therefore, Satan sets up distractions in your natural environment to keep you focused on your flesh and not the things of God.

2. He Plays to Your Weaknesses

True power first begins in the spirit realm. It then manifests in the natural world. Here is an example. Let’s say it’s Sunday morning and you should be in the house of the Lord, but you’re feeling too tired because you worked all week long, and  your physical body tells you that you need to rest. So you stay home. Wrong! It is at that exact moment that you should be even more determined to go to church to get a word from God, delivered by your Man of God. Church is where you will find a tailor-made word from Heaven – specific for your present situation.

If you want something different in your life, you have to DO something different.  How many times have you fallen for this trap and deliberately not reached levels of maturity in your Christian walk because for are not attending church or nor reading the word? Remember, we walk by faith, not by sight. Satan can squeeze into the smallest crack of doubt and spiritual laziness to get access to your mind and steal your blessing. Once he has stolen this seed of faith, he advances to the next level to kill and destroy you. People of God, it doesn’t have to be this way! Jesus came that we might have life in abundance. Jesus has equipped us as believers with everything that we need to be victorious over Satan and our circumstances.

Don’t stand by and let Satan ruin your life! The Bible shows us how to fight the good fight. Ephesians 6:10-17 says: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;15. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench ALL the fiery darts of the wicked. 17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” (Emphasis, mine.)

In these verses the Word of God outlines how we can withstand temptation and indulgences and lay hold of the more abundant life.

3. Satan Wants You to Pass Your Weaknesses on to Your Children

When the enemy comes it’s for one thing only, and that is to destroy you, your children, and your children’s children. He has a specific plan for the destruction of each family. This is known as a generational curse. Sexual bondage is an example of a type of generational curse. The Word of God clearly let’s us know that the devil attacks our sexual drive, or loins. You see this everywhere in the movies, TV shows, even at the mall with fashion designs. It’s geared toward tempting you to use your sexuality in ungodly ways. The truth of the matter is that pre-marital sex leads to disease and unwanted pregnancy. The generational curse that the enemy has dressed up can trap you into dysfunctional behaviors that you pass on to your children. The helmet of salvation protects your mind against sexual and other forms of seduction.

4. The Devil Wants to Keep You Disoriented by Emotional Turmoil

The next area of attack is at the heart, your emotions. The word of God tells us to protect our heart for out of it flows the issues of life.  The breastplate of righteousness will protect your heart. Emotional turmoil can disorient you and make you lose sight of the things of God. It can also cause you to act out behaviors that are bad for your mental and physical health.

5. The Devil Tempts You to Explore Ungodly Things and Places

The next area of attack are your feet.  Where are you going?  Where have you been that your should not have gone?  Do your feet take you to places that you are ashamed to tell anyone about?  How many people have died because they were in the wrong place and the wrong time? You don’t have to live like this.  If you want something different then try something different like having your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. Take time to go the right places that will reveal the glory of God in your life.

6. Satan Tempts You to Doubt God

The next area of attack by the enemy is your faith.  If Satan can keep your mind in bondage and make you doubt the Word and ways of the Lord, you will remain a slave to the carnal things of this world. This leads to death. Romans 12:2 says: “And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and prefect will of God.” Try reading the word of God for five hours and only watching your favorite TV show for 30 minutes (or not at all). This will make a difference in your life. I know because this is what I am doing every time I have my devotions, or when I write this blog.

Having Done All, Stand!

Once your faith is renewed and strengthened, the enemy can no longer manipulate you like a puppet on a string. The shield of faith will quench ALL the fiery darts of the wicked. Finally saints, the salvation that you profess will be tested. That is why you need to protect your walk.  Always be aware of who’s around you. Salvation and the Word of God are the ingredients that make your spiritual wardrobe function at all times: 24 hours a day, 7 days of the week, 365 days of the year.

My brethren, be strong in the Lord.
